The finish of the 10th edition of the Marcin Gortat Camp
The 10th, jubilee edition of the Marcin Gortat Camp came to an end. The annual series of meetings and trainings organized by the Marcin Gortat MG13 Foundation is addressed to young sports lovers and aims to promote physical activity among children. The culmination of the event was the final match of the Marcin Gortat Team vs the Polish Army, held for the sixth time in the Atlas Arena in Łódź.
During this year's edition, the Marcin Gortat Camp took place in Powidz, Rumia, Dąbrowa Górnicza and Łódź. Each training lasted two days – the first was dedicated to children with disabilities, while the other participants of the Camp, including children aged 9-13 and children from the category Jr. NBA Clinic (aged 14-17), competed during the second day of the Camp. What is more, in cooperation with the Polish basketball wheelchair team, it was possible to organize the first ever children’s game in Łódź for wheelchair users.
At the training, the Polish basketball player was accompanied by NBA stars – Otto Porter, Daniel Ochefu and David Adkins, who are known for playing for such teams as Washington Wizards or Los Angeles Clippers. All participants of the Camps had the opportunity to talk with basketball players, they also received t-shirts, balls and other basketball gifts. In addition, the Röben company – the patron of the event, provided towels, bags, and mugs with the image of Gortat, as well as backpacks and umbrellas.
On Sunday, July 30, 2017, the final match of the jubilee edition of Marcin Gortat Camp took place, in which the teams of Marcin Gortat and the Polish Army competed charitably. The meeting ended with the victory of Gortat's friends 77:71. Famous Polish sportsmen and actors made an appearance, e.g. Jerzy Dudek, Maciej Musiał, Mariusz Wlazły, Agnieszka Sienkiewicz and Agnieszka Włodarczyk. During the break, the best participants of the 10th edition of the event presented their skills. With the applause of over 10,000 spectators, young basketball players competed for a trip to a NBA match in the United States. Seven of them will visit the capital of the USA in the near future. This year's series of meetings and trainings was summed up in the atmosphere of fun and sporting spirit, and everyone was also invited to the next, 11th series of basketball Camps.
The guests of honor were two participants of the Warsaw Uprising – a liaison of the Gray Ranks Gryzelda Studzińska, nicknamed Zela, and paramedic Krystyna Maria Wilk-Bielska, nicknamed Stynka. One day before the 73rd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, the spectators welcomed them with a standing applause, and Marcin Gortat gave flowers to the heroines. Sponsors, including Röben, which were presented successively throughout the competitions conducted during the break of the match, were also honored.
